I bought this two years ago, when my in-laws were going to drive with us from LA to Grand Canyon. Put it on top of the Sienna, got 6, then 7 people in, with luggage. It holds lots of stuff. I was afraid of hurting fuel economy and swaying in crosswinds, but I usually couldn't tell the difference at all! I got 20 mpg+, and no handling issues! Since then, I've used it to carry camping gear, which kept the dirt out of the car, and stuff stayed dry in there even driving through rain.

Attaching the driver-side mounts is a stretch from the passenger side, but no big deal. Simple wingnuts to attach it, and hinges and locks work well.

I suppose the materials are maybe cheaper than the Thule or Yakima, but it does everything I ask, for 0 vs. 0-0. I'm totally satisfied, and smile whenever I see those other brands on someone's car!

We recently purchased and used the SuperMat Roof Mat. It did the job, providing traction and a bit of cushion between the Highland luggage carrier and the roof of our 2005 Honda Pilot. We used it for a 20+ hour round trip from Atlanta to the NC Outer Banks in 95+ degree weather and torrential downpours. I'd recommend this to prevent scratches on the roof as is much cheaper than resurfacing your roof and it appears that it will last a long time.

I bought this roof box and installed it on a 2005 Toyota Highlander. The instructions were simple and easy to read. Just make sure to READ them! I had to move the stock roof rack bars back a few inches, but it was no big deal. The box mounted quickly and easily using the hardware that was included. The box did not interfere with the operation of the sunroof, but it did add a little extra wind noise (and a lot of down-draft) when the sunroof is open. A little tip: after installing the box, make sure it's centered perfectly, then mark the position of the u-bolts with a silver paint marker. This way, you'll always be able to quickly and accurately re-install the Thule Excursion at a moment's notice. Also, make sure you install the rubber "dots" that are enclosed with this box. They are used to cover up the remaining holes that were drilled for other vehicle applications. Failure to do so could result in swampy luggage. One other thing...I chucked the annoying luggage straps that Thule included. After packing this thing with four duffle bags, there was no room left for anything to go anywhere!
Overall performance was good. We noticed a slight dip in gas mileage, but what do you expect?! It was incredibly handy to use this and have some free space in the interior of the SUV for my bicycle...and the family. So far, the box has gone from NJ to West Virginia University and back. It also made it from NJ to TX and back...all without a single problem (approximately 4,500 miles total). It survived an impulsive car wash that my girlfriend subjected it to and not a single leak. The only annoying thing about the box is the interior luggage anchors / u bolt mounts. They seem to snag on EVERYTHING you put inside the Thule Excursion. It's a small gripe and about the only thing I can complain about.
It's a great product and well worth the money. Now stop reading and order it already!

We bought this cargo carrier to use on a long roadtrip (over 10,000 miles and 25 U.S. states), from which we just returned. We have a Subaru Outback wagon with a side- and cross-bar roofrack, and the carrier worked great on this trip. Everything inside stayed completely dry without extra protection through several heavy rainstorms; the carrier fabric, zipper, and straps remain in good shape after 7 weeks of frequent loading and unloading and travel at highway speeds over mountain ranges, through deserts, and across a big range of temperatures, as well as bouncing around on back roads.

The RoofBag works best packed full - which reduces noise as well as wear and tear - and we found that filling the corners with soft odds and ends of baggage helped get a good wedge shape to minimize wind resistance. The strap fasteners are solid and easy to use. We ran a short bungee cord across the front of the bag to help keep the straps from drifting toward the sides of the car, and we added a small padlock to secure the zipper ends when we parked on the street or at a motel. Although the list price is higher, there are online sources selling the RoofBag for about plus shipping.

We bought this carrier 3 months ago and are very happy with it. Living in Florida, we go to the beach often, and this thing is VERY useful.

The carrier fits well on top of our 2009 Dodge Journey w/ roof rack. While not fit for carrying valuables or breakables (no lock, carrier is very flexible, and not water proof), shoving 3 boogie boards and 4-5 beach chairs overhead saves a TON of space inside the vehicle. The strap system works well, allowing you to cinch the carrier down nice and tight so things don't shift much in transit. While it may not be 100% water-proof, we've driven through some torrential downpours and haven't noticed any leaking to date (though for our use so far, this is a non-issue).

When not in use, it folds down to about the size of a small pillow in the supplied storage bag, allowing us to keep the carrier with us at all times, "just in case".

Attaching a string with a Velcro loop on the end to the zipper pulls can make it easier to reach the zippers around the vehicle.

The felt bottom protects the vehicle roof nicely, but be sure it is clean. A clean towel/blanket underneath may be easier to keep clean.

When attaching to the vehicle, make sure the zipper goes around the BACK - with the one non-zippered side facing the FRONT of the vehicle. Having the zipper go around the front may allow (more) water to get in.

This cargo carrier worked great. B/c of the reviews that mentioned it not being waterproof, we packed everything in those plastic space saver bags. We drove over 1600 miles w/ it, not a problem!! On our way home it did rain and the inside did get wet, but it wasn't bad. Next time I will try that waterproofing spray you use for tents and see if that works. That is the only reason I give it four stars instead of five. We were definately happy w/it, and recommend it.

I used this bag to move from New York to Virginia in a 2001 Honda Accord. The bag held a remarkable amount of stuff, stayed in place and kept everything inside clean and dry. My new apartment came furnished, so I only needed to move clothes, kitchen items, etc. With this roof bag doubling the car's load capacity, I was able to do it in only 2 trips, saving around 0 on a moving van or truck! The first trip we fit two large suitcases, a garment bag, 4 pillows, blankets, sheets and towels in the roof bag, plus a couple small boxes. We followed the easy instructions for loading and strap placement. There was a bit more wind noise than without the bag, but it wasn't bad - we were still able to talk and listen to talk radio at a normal decibel level. The second time we weren't able to pack the bag as optimally (stuffed tight is best - a mix of hard items and soft things to pack around them is optimal) so the wind was noticeably louder, but still not bad. In our car, the top of my 6'2" boyfriend's head hit the strap that runs through the front interior. He said it was a little annoying at first, but then he got used to it and liked that he could feel if the strap was slackening (it did not). After 2 trips the bag shows no sign of wear. I folded it up into a pretty small bundle and stored it under my bed for future use. Highly recommended.

With 2 large dogs and 3 adults traveling together we needed some way to extend our carrying capacity so I started looking at car top carriers. My husband and I bought this carrier on Amazon and read all the reviews. This carrier was PERFECT for our trip from Biloxi, MS to Milwaukee WI. This carrier was not noisy and did not shift during our ride. This carrier was VERY ROOMY! We fit 1 double stroller, infant exersaucer, medium tub full of toys, small duffle bag full of shoes, 4 beach towles and 1 twin size blanket in a bag, bag full of halloween decor, small tackle box full of play cars, large bag of diapers, 2 shoe boxes, infant bath seat. There was still room for odds and ends that could fit in the open cracks. We read on most of the reviews to tape the extra straps to prevent wind noise and we did that. We bought this Lund bag based on reviews and hoped for the best. We were traveling about 5 hours upstate in a jeep with limited storage space - having been used to all of the room we had loved about our old minivan. We found a lot of rooftop bags online that were in the 0 - 0 range with reviews that were not-so-great. We also saw the hard sided rooftop carriers f0r 0+ that we would have liked but didn't consider buying because we think we'll be buying a new minivan by next year and won't need a rooftop carrier. We figured it was certainly worth a try for . The Lund bag has a soft fabric bottom so it won't scratch your car roof - the use of the straps are pretty self-explanatory and there's a one-sheet diagram included which shows how to use the straps and buckles. (The night before we left I laid it out on the floor to see what we could get into it.) It took us no more than 5 minutes to get it filled and strapped down on the roof, good to go. We took the advice in another review and used large safety pins to pin the loose strap ends to keep them from slapping against the roof. The bag held three substantial suitcases, 2 large bags of towels (kitchen garbage bags)and if needed we could have squeezed more in. Keep in mind that the straps come down across the zipper opening so once strapped down it's difficult to get big items out if you forget something. The zipper is heavy duty (larger pulls would have made it easier) and goes around three sides of the carrier so it can be used for oversized items. We have a luggae rack on the roof so we didn't use the clips so I can't comment on how they work. After a 5 hour drive upstate and 5 hours back (at speeds up to 80) there was not so much as a frayed or pulled seam. We didn't encounter any rain so I cannot comment on it's water resistance - but if you put the non-zippeded side toward the front of the car it would certainly minimize on wind driven rain getting in.
We are still amazed at the great value of . We concluded that the cost savings more than makes up for any minimal difference in gas mileage due to drag. Yes - it's not as pretty as the name-brand hard sided carriers - but we were happy to have the 0 - 0 savings in our pockets. While we may not use it a lot in the future - it was worth it even if we never use it again. Huge bargain for a great product!

I ordered this on Wednesday, received on Thursday (chose overnight shipping) even though it said it might need an extra day or two until it was ready to ship. Friday I used it for a camping trip. The bag seems to be made with very heavy material so it seems like it will last quite a while and not be easily punctured. It was very easy to attach to the Highland 2005200 48" Black Universal Car Top Bar Carrier that I also ordered. I tightened the straps snug, but didn't over-tighten since I didn't want to stress the attachment point on the bag. There wasn't any rain while we were driving...but I'm sure at some point that will be tested since I live in the Seattle area. I have a 1998 Saturn SL2, and both items fit well: this carrier covered almost all of my roof. I fit a ton of gear inside: 2 rubbermaid containers, 3 camp chairs (2 adult, 1 child), 2 regular sized pillows, a camp stove, a small folding table, a 6-person tent, a small sleeping bag, and 1 or 2 medium bags of clothes. Like others said, it only unzips on two sides, so it is kind of a pain to load stuff into the far corner. I used a step stool and put my two storage tubs in the front, first sliding one into the far corner. The zippers worked well and seemed sturdy, but it was a little difficult to zip it around the corner...maybe because the bag was stiff around the corner...it wasn't from a faulty zipper. Overall, this was a great buy and I'm sure I will use it many more times.

(one person suggested using socks to help keep them in place) Other then that it was well worth the money and our kids were very happy because, they had plenty of room inside the car and were able to be comfortable. Great investment especially for families with children who travel!! Also great because, we will have it for future trips!!!

We purchased this carrier for our Acura RDX and headed out on a 3 week road trip. It not only held 4 regular size dufflebags, but two razor scooters/the blankets we purchased along the way/a bag of cleaning supplies/and a bag of stuff for the pool.

The product arrived earlier than the promised time and came by truck. The two drivers opened the box in front of me to ensure it was not damaged and it wasn't. Putting it on the car was quick and easy. Once we figured out what holes to use, it took about 15-20 minutes to secure it in place. The lid opens from the back and lifts up toward the front. It did not fit in one of the hotel parking garages, so we emptied it, took it off, and brought it to the hotel room on a luggage carrier :-). It fit nicely standing up in the closet and was out of sight. It also has a lock, which gave us peace of mind when we left it full at a hotel stop.

Cons: The lid is very light and feels a little loose when you open it. We lost a few mpg's (but you probably will with any carrier).

I was very excited to find this luggage carrier b/c the design seems to be unique in the market. It was easy to assemble esp. with the caveats from other reviews about the snug fit of the aluminum frame in the sleeve. As other reviews mentioned, the shipping box, original from the manufacturer, is extremely flimsy and barely held together with tape, suffering several tears and openings by the time I received it. I brought the assembled carrier to my newly installed Rola roof rack on my Mazda5 (thinking that the two components by the same manufacturer should be totally compatible, which they are)only to find that the factory installation points on the car for the roof racks sets the racks further apart front to back than the bracket points on the luggage carrier. There was no indication of the bracket spacing in the product description, only the overall dimensions of the erected carrier. The Pursuit luggage carrier might have worked if I had an adjustable roof rack, but the Rola rack (which is perfect and half the price of the dealer offered accessory) is custom made to fit the Mazda5's design. This carrier is well made with thick, heavyweight, waterproof fabric and Velcro'ed flaps to cover all the zippered openings. I don't know how it performs on the road, but with another roof rack, I would give this item another try. Now to tape up the box to return ship it...
